For a long time, I’ve been on a crusade against the status quo, or doing the same things everyone else does and acting average. That kind of mentality is something that’s pushed on us by our government, our education system, and the media. I’m uncomfortable with my life in the hands of amateurs. I’m a Realtor, and in my own industry the NAR lets anybody else be Realtors as long as they complete their 135 hours of real estate school.
I think that’s bogus. That’s my business philosophy as well as my life philosophy, but it’s recently collided with what’s happening in my personal life. My wife and I have five-week-old twins at home—a boy and a girl. One of them—our daughter—was born with a hemangioma, or a benign vascular tumor.
About one in every 300 babies are born with a hemangioma. Sometimes they can be small and inconsequential, and sometimes they can be large and aggressive. My daughter’s covers the entire left side of her face. When a hemangioma is on the face, it can grow both externally and internally. This means it might’ve affected her brain or other organs inside her body.
We’ve been through so much already, and there was no way I was going to leave her life in the hands of amateurs. We weren’t just going to leave her life in the hands of one doctor, either. We assembled a team of the world’s best specialists and made sure her life was in the hands of pros.
That’s how we live our lives on a very personal level, and that’s our business philosophy. In real estate, there are people trusting their real estate transaction to a single agent who has to wear 10 different hats and claims to be the best at all the numerous complex tasks that go into a home sale. That’s a lot of incongruencies.
Who do you have in charge of your real estate transaction? Move outside of that scope and ask the same question: How are you handling your accounting? How about your legal work? How are you running your life? Are you running it with pros or amateurs? Take a moment to figure out who you are, how you’ve been functioning, and if what you’re being sold makes any sense. Can one person do the job of 10 specialists as effectively as pros can in each individualized role?
There’s a reason the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none” exists, and there’s a reason we have listing specialists, buyer specialists, transaction managers, marketing coordinators, etc. These are all different personalities that have their unique skill sets, and we make sure all of our clients benefit from the sum of those parts, which is much greater than the individual units.
If you have any questions, referrals, or you’re thinking about buying or selling a home, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’d love to help.2017-05-30T09:09:00-07:002017-05-31T12:10:07-07:00Casey Millertag:sandiegohomefinder.com,2012-09-20:17043 Advantages of Buying a Smaller HomeDepending on where you live, housing prices may have shot up over the past year. While this is great for homeowners — and a positive sign for the economy in general — it can be disheartening if you're finding yourself priced out of favorite neighborhoods or home styles.
If the real estate market’s getting you down, cheer up! This may be an opportunity to open up to a whole array of homes that are somewhat smaller than what you thought your dream home would be. Buying a smaller home comes with all kinds of hidden advantages. Consider the bright sides of buying a little less space.
A Lower Price Saves More Money Than You Think
If you can't afford a favorite $500,000 dream house, a smaller place nearby that costs $300,000 will save $200,000, right? Actually, no — the savings are even greater. A $500,000 30-year mortgage at 4 percent interest will end up costing an additional $344,139.20 in interest, while the same mortgage for a $300,000 home will cost just $210,233.52 extra.
Over the life of the loan, that's a savings of $133,905.68 on top of the $200,000 sticker price reduction. You'll probably also pay less for taxes and homeowners insurance, so the savings continue over a lifetime. Spend a little time playing with a mortgage calculator to see how this will work for the houses you're looking at.
There's Less to Worry About
It's just plain easier to live in a smaller house. You'll probably have less yard work as well as lower costs for maintenance, thanks to needing fewer materials, and less time to get things done. If you're thinking of investing in a fixer-upper, you'll most likely be able to turn it into your ideal living space in less time than a bigger house would take.
Your weekly or monthly chores will also go by much faster without as many square feet of carpets to vacuum and woodwork to dust. With less house to worry about, you'll have more time to enjoy hobbies and your social life — a surprisingly big boost to one's overall happiness.
You'll Get to Curate Your Belongings
There's a whole movement afoot that centers around getting rid of excess belongings to lead a happier life. While no one expects you to become a monastic minimalist, choosing to live in a smaller house provides an opportunity to curate your items for a more streamlined existence. Instead of being overwhelmed with choices from a giant walk-in closet, you'll have just what you need and use.
The same goes for sporting equipment and kitchen gadgets. And that extra bedroom you had your eye on? With fewer empty rooms to outfit, you'll experience far less temptation to buy things to fill up the empty space.
In general, a smaller house requires less time and energy than a similar house with 10 or 20 percent more room. There are certainly financial incentives, but you may find that the psychological benefits convert you to the many joys of small homeownership. Keep these advantages in mind as you continue house hunting!

Recently, I was having a tough time bouncing back. The obstacles in my life had beaten me down, and it was difficult to find the motivation to get back on track. My good friend invited me to stay with her in San Diego to get some perspective, and since I’d never been to the west coast I excitedly accepted. Little did I know that the city would heal me in ways I couldn’t imagine!
My introduction to the city started in the Gaslamp Quarter. This beautiful area was an ideal place to start my trip because it’s easily explored on foot. I quickly became acquainted with the countless shops and cafés in the neighborhood, and couldn’t believe what a friendly atmosphere it was. I’m normally somewhat reserved in unfamiliar places, but somehow I easily adapted. It was easy to break out of my shell in such an easygoing environment, and I met all kinds of interesting people.
After I’d had some time to adjust to my new surroundings, we took a trip to Balboa Park. My friend had instructed me to wear socks and sneakers, but when I asked why all she would say was that she was going to reintroduce me to my inner child. When we arrived, we went to a unique and amazing exhibit called Taping Shape at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, a crazy little habitat made out of packaging tape, shrink wrap, and colored lights. Though I was hesitant at first, I decided to dive in and explore. It was the most fun I’ve had in years! Instead of worrying about what others thought, I jumped and played like there was no tomorrow. It was liberating to just let go and have fun.
After our crazy tape adventure, we strolled across the park and happened upon the beautiful carousel. We decided to hop aboard. All the things that had been holding me back seemed to drift away on that ride, and I hopped off it feeling light as air.
My favorite part of the trip was our whale watching excursion. We saw dozens of dolphins and seals, but the most incredible sight was the humpback whales. Two of them breached at almost the exact moment, and I will never forget the vision of those beautiful, colossal creatures crashing into the water. My petty problems seemed miniscule compared to the daily obstacles these amazing animals must battle just to survive, and I left the tour feeling revitalized and ready to take on the world.
San Diego gave me the perspective I needed to get back on my feet and get my life in order. I was so inspired by my trip, I’m even considering permanently moving to the area! I never knew the power a single city could hold, but San Diego truly saved me and I will always be grateful.

A home can be dressed up and changed, but its location can never be changed… or can it? The status of some properties are greatly elevated, and become more than prime real estate after being used in a TV show or movie. There are many homes have become icons thanks to the TV shows and movies that have made them famous. Here are some real homes that have been used in some of our favorite recognizable movies. It’s interesting to see how the home was used for the movie, home sale prices, current home status and trivial bits of information. Many famous houses and apartment buildings are available for fans to tour. The apartments used in Sex and the City and Friends, as well as the houses used in Mrs. Doubtfire, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Full House… just to name a few. Fans can visit to get the experience of the lives of their favorite characters, if even for a minute. For more serious fans, they can purchase the property if it ends up on the market.2015-01-27T02:29:00-07:002015-07-15T09:42:41-07:00Daniel Beertag:sandiegohomefinder.com,2012-09-20:1033The Daniel Beer Group Client Appreciation Bash at Cucina Enoteca in Del MarWe at The Daniel Beer Group remain grateful for each of our client’s trust and belief in us to serve your real estate needs.
